Progressing the Garbologie vision

I'm not quite sure what it was, but Friday was an exceptional day. Perhaps it was one too many coffees, perhaps it was a rapid succession of great hits, but I was buzzing all day.

In particular, I got great traction in relation to the culture around Garbologie, and the glass project.

Garbologie culture

The day started out with talking the business through with Mish (my wife) over a coffee, bringing her back up to speed with where things are at. I've been running a bit hard for the last couple of weeks, and so it was really important to show her where our business has got to. And it feels really good, for she has incredible insights to add but risks becoming isolated by me forgetting to show her.

Then on to a coffee with a person who would be awesome in Garbologie. To protect identities, I'll call this person A. There is an A sized hole in the organisation, and I wanted to show A what the vision is, where I'd hope to go. It's all about the loose interconnectedness of an organisation that I don't need or want to control. An organisation that is driven by its vision "To create a world without waste".  An organisation that makes decisions in line with its values.

This was all seen by A, and talking it through reminded me of some of the bits that are still brilliant but I'd looked past in all of the many butterflies I'm chasing. And so I left the conversation with A inspired (I believe) and myself reinvigorated. If a little twitchy from all the coffee.

Glass

The week started with myself largely in airplanes. Monday and Tuesday off to Sydney and Brisbane to look at the glass plant, get a feel for what it can do, the people I'd be dealing with. That visit, while expensive for a few hours chatting, is money well spent.

For me, doing business is all about the strength of relationships. I want to work with people I like working with, and I needed to know that I could work with these guys. I can. Learning that was worth the 10 hours in the air.

On this base, I need to do a lot of quick work drawing together the threads. That was Friday afternoon, calling various contacts old and new. It looks like there might be a site, a customer for powder, secured feedstock and the sort of deal that screams win-win for everybody involved.

So no concrete details just yet, but plenty cooking along. I really have the tiger by the tail with the glass project.

And rounding out the day

Rounding out the day was a visit by Mish, our 2 yo daughter and myself to The Creative Arts House to see the Garbologie artwork. It is very impressive, and I'm hanging out for the big reveal. It captures the sense of the brand , and its unveiling will be exciting.

I won't say too much more on that front either. I'd hate to spoil the surprise.

So, in all, a most satisfying day and week.
